Is Dragon’s Dogma 2 Steam Deck compatible? With Capcom’s open-world RPG now out in the wild, we now know that dawning your weapon of choice as the new Arisen, along with your Pawn companions, isn’t a straightforward process on the Steam Deck. The newly released sequel finally has a rating from Valve, and it’s not good news for hopeful players.

The Dragon’s Dogma 2 system requirements highlight that the game will take up 100GB of install space, so you’ll need to pick up one of the larger choices from our best microSD cards for Steam Deck guide to ensure you have enough space, but downloading it might be a fruitless expedition. Our Dragon’s Dogma 2 settings guide will also be essential to squeezing every last bit of performance out of your PC.

Is Dragon’s Dogma 2 Steam Deck compatible?

Dragon’s Dogma 2 is rated as unsupported for the Steam Deck by Valve. This comes after performance at launch resulted in abysmal frame rates on the handheld.

Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen has received a ‘verified’ commendation by Valve and lends itself to being played on the go. While we thought this bode well for Dragon’s Dogma 2, it simply cannot bring the same level of performance to the Deck, and rarely runs at higher than 20fps on the lowest settings and with AMD FSR enabled.

Unfortunately, it appears that the lack of optimization plaguing the PC version is also present in the Steam Deck port. This does feel like a fixable situation for Capcom, but it will take time and we don’t expect Valve to offer a playable or verified rating until then.

A recent update did offer a little hope of future support until it was pointed out that this was simply the process of the game moving from unchecked to unsupported, and in no way suggests that compatibility is being worked on.

If you instead want to try out some games that are perfectly optimized for Valve’s pocket powerhouse, our best Steam Deck games guide is full of games that play great on the go.
