FlexiSpot E7 Pro standing desk review

Combining style and durability, FlexiSpot's E7 Pro offers relief from anyone suffering from desk-related discomfort

Our Verdict

It’s certainly a little pricey, but the FlexiSpot E7 Pro is a top-tier standing desk with rock-solid build quality and impressively granular height adjustments that would suit most offices. It's got enough support for heavy gaming setups, but the minimalist design might be boring to some.

Reasons to buy
  • Smooth, precise height adjustments
  • Comes with a 10 year warranty
  • Tabletop feels solid and sturdy
Reasons to avoid
  • Lots of cables to manage, even with included kit
  • Parts are heavy and difficult to manoeuver during build

As I’ve mentioned in previous reviews for this publication, I’ve been a remote worker in the cybersecurity industry since December 2019, working huge amounts of time from a variety of chairs and flat surfaces of varying quality and sometimes safety (flashbacks to working from a piece of wood laid on top of two filing cabinets…)

Thankfully, the quality of the office setup I’ve been working with has trended upward from those heady days, and I was recently asked to review the Flexispot E7 Pro sit-stand desk. I’ve heard nothing but rave reviews from friends and colleagues who’ve invested in standing desks over the last few years, and I was excited to see if it made a difference for me too.

With a work-from-home desk job, a chronic back injury, and a vested interest in things that make working in front of computers for long periods more comfortable, I can justifiably say that the FlexiSpot E7 Pro standing desk genuinely did make a real difference. As the name suggests, it’s the company’s premium offering, but many of its features are also available in FlexiSpot’s more basic models.

I’m no doctor or chiropractor. But I can say that being able to detect that you’re not comfortable mid-shift, hitting a button, and suddenly being in a different position and not making that ache worse – it’s a game-changer. If you’re looking for a standing desk or simply fitting out the home office you deserve, read on to find out whether the FlexiSpot E7 Pro is for you.

Assembly

I learned from experience with the FlexiSpot C7 Ergonomic office chair review that it’d be helpful to rope in my wife for some of the required stabilization. The desk’s legs, central bar, and tabletop are all very heavy and awkward to position during assembly. While one person could build this desk alone, bringing another person in will speed things along dramatically.

FlexiSpot always does a great job with assembly instructions, and the booklet with the E7 Pro offers some of the clearest and easiest-to-follow steps for anything I’ve bought in the last year or so. I don’t think we had any “What does it want us to do?” moments during the build process for the E7 Pro, which has been more common than I’d like with a lot of the furniture I’ve bought recently.

You get everything you need to build the desk within the box, but it’s worth bringing along your crosshead screwdriver if you’ve got a second helper building with you as it will speed things along. You also get a T-shaped tool in the box, with two Allan key ends at the top and a cross-head screwdriver on the longer handle.

One thing I did notice that’s worth mentioning is that the pre-drilled pilot holes on the tabletop are very small and occasionally not in exactly the right place. This is easily rectified and frankly, with enough applied force I could get the screws to bite where they needed anyway – but I did want to call that out.

Once you’ve got the heavy pieces together, the table is simple to finish off. You have a lot of choices on where to put the various accessories (the clamp power strip, the cable tidy, etc.) and it’s easy to place your devices in a manner where no cables are forced to bend back on themselves. Once done, the C7B-Pro looks a little something like this:

Features

The main feature of a sit-stand desk you’re going to be interested in is the height adjustment mechanism, and you’ll be happy to know that in this regard the E7 Pro delivers.

Everyone is a little different when it comes to comfortable working conditions, and I’ve always felt a lot of ergonomic officeware didn’t offer enough granular adjustment ability, leading you to kind of settle for an “Eh, good enough” state that kind of defeats the point investing in ergonomics in the first place.

The E7 Pro’s easy-to-use keypad allows for an impressive level of small adjustments to be made, resulting in a fit that works for you and ensures you aren’t holding yourself in a detrimental position for hours at a time.

The memory function allows for 4 separate height values to be stored and makes utilizing the chair a breeze when you’re required to share the desk with a second person. My wife set herself up for her perfect measurements with the 1 and 2 buttons, I used the pictorial sit and stand buttons for mine.

My wife can use the desk all day when I’m not, but the moment I need the desk I just need to hit the sit or stand button, and the desk just adjusts itself to the exact setting I decided on earlier!  It’s a dumb thing to be impressed by but delivering on adjustment granularity has also been something I’ve found lacking in a lot of previous purchases.

I wanted to reiterate here that the E7 Pro does not come with a standing desk mat, and whilst FlexiSpot never claimed the E7 Pro did, if you want to use this as a daily driver work desk for long periods you are going to want to invest in one. Without a standing desk mat, long periods of standing up at any sit-standing desk will result in your feet quickly aching and becoming painful over time.

The table top feels extremely stable even when I lean my entire weight against it in standing mode. The legs and all other fitments to the desk are all made of solid metal and not a single part of the entire setup feels flimsy or frail in the slightest. The E7 Pro quickly feels like a part of the office that isn’t going away for a long time and I appreciate that.

As you can granularly adjust the height of the desk to fit any chair or other obstacles underneath, you shouldn’t have any issues fitting this into an existing office, as long as the table itself fits from a width and possible maximum height perspective.

Most importantly, the desk quickly gained the approval of our home’s esteemed judges of flat surface quality – the cats. The cable management kit and functionality are pretty self-explanatory, with the table being built around the ability to hide a lot of the cabling required to power the height adjustment mechanisms and cables of your own.

Design

I greatly appreciated the simple, no-fuss design of this desk and I think that’s why it fits so quickly and so well with the rest of my current home office. For me, the clean, rectangular shapes and bamboo tabletop color help the E7 Pro blend in with a lot of my existing office furniture.

You can choose a tabletop color to match your own office during the purchase process on the Flexispot website. The frame comes in either white or black, and there are nine desktop options at varying price levels, including bamboo, rubberwood, and a white melamine-style top.

Build quality is a specific high point for the E7 Pro. Every part you pick up when building the thing feels solid and well-made and the whole desk feels rock-solid and stable when you put it together. With a 160kg maximum load, the desk should be able to take your entire setup – be it for PC gaming, content creation, or work – with no issues and no wobble, adjust itself to a height that works for you with minimum effort.

Value

The FlexiSpot E7 Pro isn’t the cheapest option out there, starting at around $500 without a desktop. But I think it’s utterly worth shelling out for if you want something that will last the test of time.

Should you buy the FlexiSpot E7 Pro?

If you’ve been thinking about buying yourself a sit-stand desk but weren’t sure if the difference truly made the price point worthwhile, this is the one to take a shot at. The E7 Pro will be outside the price range of some, but I think that this is the cheapest top-tier quality option for an ergonomic sit-stand desk you’re going to find. I’m confident based on the build quality that you’ll more than get your money’s worth.
